The U.S. Senate has approved a plan to reopen the federal government. The government shutdown had affected millions of people relying on food assistance, left hundreds of thousands of federal employees without pay, and disrupted air travel operations.

The Senate passed the reopening plan with 60 votes in favor and 40 against, including support from the Republican majority in the Senate and eight Democrats. The plan will now be sent to the House of Representatives. Senate Majority Leader Mike Johnson stated that he is working to have the plan approved quickly and sent to the President for signing.
