The United Nations Security Council announced in a newsletter that the mission of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has been extended for another year.
Late last night, the Security Council convened a meeting to vote on the resolution (2727) prepared by Japan regarding the extension of the UNAMA mission on Friday afternoon, American time.
It is stated in the newsletter that the Security Council emphasized the importance of UNAMA’s presence in Afghanistan and asked the Secretary-General of the United Nations to report on the situation in Afghanistan and UNAMA’s mission once every three months.
