The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, announcing a new ceiling for the cost of telephone calls and Internet packages, says that the price of these services will be reduced by 14 to 36 percent.
Najibullah Haqqani, acting head of the ministry, said in a press conference today (Wednesday, 23 Aqrab) that the cost of one minute of domestic telephone calls is 1.30 afghanis and 1.40 afghanis from one network to another. He adds that the monthly price of one GB internet package has been set at 95 afghanis, which according to him is 14% lower than the previous price of internet packages.
Also, the price of text messages between subscribers within each network has been set at 1.30 Afghani. Acting Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology says that 800 new sites have been created in remote areas and 1000 inactive sites have been reactivated.
On the other hand, Atra administration says that 14 million out of the total of 26 million SIM cards were legally registered by this administration all over the country and 60% of this process has been completed in Kabul.
Previously, one GB of internet was priced at 110 afghanis, but now its price has been set at 95 afghanis, and the price of telephone calls from one network to another, which used to be 1.85 per minute, has now been reduced to 1.30 afghanis. According to officials, the price reduction was done after evaluating the telecommunication companies.
