Officials in the Kunduz Department of Agriculture say that the Department of Alternative Livelihoods of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock has implemented a program to distribute poppy seedlings and planting tools in Dasht e Archi district of this province in order to reduce poppy cultivation and promote legal products.
According to them, this action is part of the government’s efforts to create a sustainable livelihood for farmers and fight against drug cultivation and trafficking.
Salahuddin Vahedi, the director of agricultural affairs of the Kunduz Department of Agriculture, says that they have distributed seedlings, plants and 10 planting tools to 18 farmers of Dasht Archi district.
He adds that the necessary training for the cultivation and care of this product has been provided by the relevant officials.
It should be said that this process not only creates opportunities for legal income generation for farmers, but also has a positive effect on the reduction of drug production in Kunduz.
