The media office of Panjshir province has announced in a statement that an auction was held today (Wednesday, March 26) in the hall of the provincial headquarters, where 2,209 carats of emeralds, along with a quantity of raw emeralds, were sold for $146,300.
The statement further mentioned that, in addition to traders from Panjshir, dozens of investors from various provinces across the country participated in the auction.
Since the rise of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the legal extraction and free sale of emeralds in Panjshir have provided employment opportunities for thousands of people. This has encouraged many young people in the province to engage in the emerald trade. Unlike in the past, most of the profits from this business now benefit local people.
It is worth noting that during the previous auction, two Indian traders also participated.
