Chinese authorities have announced that at least 21 people have been killed and 61 others injured in an explosion at a fireworks manufacturing factory in the country.

International media reported today (Tuesday, 15 Thawr / May 5) that the explosion occurred in the city of Liuyang, the capital of Hunan province in China.

According to reports, five rescue teams consisting of 500 personnel, along with three rescue robots, were deployed to the site and carried out a coordinated human–machine search operation.

Following the incident, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a comprehensive investigation and instructed authorities to strengthen risk monitoring and safety control in key industries.
