Indian authorities have announced that this summer’s severe heatwave in several cities has resulted in the deaths of over 100 people and the illness of dozens more.

According to Indian media reports, temperatures in several cities, including Delhi, have recently risen above 50 degrees Celsius.

Reuters reported on Monday, June 3, that at least 30 people in the eastern Indian state of Odisha have died due to the extreme heat, and another 97 are being investigated for suspected heatstroke, according to the state’s disaster management organization.

Meanwhile, parts of eastern India have experienced heavy rainfall, and reports indicate that 14 people have died due to severe rain in the northeastern state of Assam.
