Heavy rainfall and landslides in northeastern India have resulted in the deaths of at least 34 people, and nearly 19,000 others have been forced to leave their homes.

Indian media reported on Monday (June 2) that over the past four days, intense rainfall has struck northeastern India, displacing thousands of residents.

According to reports, rescue forces, the army, and local volunteers are evacuating flood-affected areas, and 31 emergency camps have been set up for the displaced.

The Indian government has announced that over 1,000 tourists have been rescued from the affected areas.

In response to the severe weather, local authorities have called for the situation to be declared a “state disaster” in order to receive additional national aid for those affected.
