The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says in its latest report that 715,400 Afghan refugees have returned from Pakistan to Afghanistan between the beginning of 2026 and October 3.

According to UNHCR data, 155,000 Afghans were forcibly deported from Pakistan and returned to Afghanistan during this period.

The report adds that more than 200,000 returning Afghans have received cash assistance from the United Nations since the beginning of this year. The assistance was provided to help returning families meet their immediate basic needs.

According to UNHCR, the return of Afghan refugees from Pakistan has continued throughout 2026, with thousands of Afghan families returning to the country.

The agency said that around one million Afghan refugees also returned from Pakistan to Afghanistan in 2025.

As the number of returning refugees increases, the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations have continued providing assistance to support returnees and help meet their basic needs.
