Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, has responded to provocative remarks by Pakistani Army spokesperson General Chaudhry, who claimed that “Afghanistan is not a country,” saying that the assertion is incorrect under international law.
Khalilzad said that Afghanistan existed as a country centuries before the creation of Pakistan.
He urged Pakistani officials to change what he described as their risky and failed policy toward Afghanistan, stressing that the two neighbouring countries need each other and should work toward establishing positive relations.
