In a recent session of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was involved in a heated exchange with a member of Congress over claims that Donald Trump had fallen asleep during official meetings.
Ted Lieu, a member of Congress, played several videos from past sessions and asked Rubio whether the U.S. president had been “asleep” in more than one meeting.
Rubio firmly rejected the allegations, saying: “That is not true. I have never seen him fall asleep. On the contrary, he does not sleep at all and sometimes calls me at two in the morning.”
In response, Lieu dismissed Rubio’s remarks and accused him of “lying to Congress,” arguing that the president’s behavior in meetings has led some countries to view him as weak.
The verbal clash comes amid previous media reports suggesting moments of Trump appearing to close his eyes or look fatigued during meetings, though none of these claims have ever been officially confirmed.
