Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for Afghanistan peace, has condemned recent Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan territory, stating that violence cannot resolve disputes between the two countries.
In his message on the social media platform X, he referred to mutual accusations between Kabul and Islamabad, noting that Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of supporting the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, while Afghanistan accuses Islamabad of providing safe havens to ISIS-Khorasan.
Khalilzad emphasized that the solution to this crisis should be achieved through a political agreement and negotiations.
He suggested that both sides should commit to preventing their territories from being used to threaten the security of the other country.
According to him, such an agreement could be implemented under the supervision of a trusted third party.
He also described Pakistan’s current policy as unsuccessful and stressed the need to prioritize serious dialogue and diplomacy.
Meanwhile, reports say that recent Pakistani airstrikes in Khost, Paktika, and Kunar provinces resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians and injuries to 14 others.
